The Ascent of Reo Purgyil

Reo Purgyil stands as the highest mountain in Himachal Pradesh, rising above the remote landscapes of the Kinnaur Himalayas.

The expedition begins with a scenic drive from Shimla through the Satluj valley, reaching the high-altitude village of Nako.

From Nako, climbers trek across rocky moraines and alpine terrain to reach Base Camp and higher camps along the glacier.

The route includes steep snow slopes, exposed ridges, and mixed terrain that demand advanced mountaineering skills.

Summit day is physically and mentally demanding, involving sustained climbing at extreme altitude above 6,800 meters.

Due to its remoteness and technical challenges, Reo Purgyil remains one of the least-climbed and most prestigious peaks in Himachal.

Why Reo Purgyil Is a Serious Technical Himalayan Challenge

Steep Snow & Ice Slopes

The climb includes sustained snow and ice sections requiring technical mountaineering skills.

Exposed Rocky Ridges

Narrow ridges and mixed terrain demand careful movement and rope techniques.

Extreme Altitude

Summiting above 6,800m exposes climbers to very low oxygen levels.

Remote Expedition Environment

Located in a remote region with limited rescue infrastructure.

Technical Summit Push

Summit day involves steep ascents and long hours in high-altitude alpine terrain.

Expedition Route & Approach

High-altitude expedition route including Leh, Korzok village, acclimatization zones, and Mt. Kiager Ri summit

The expedition starts from Shimla, travels to Kalpa and Nako, and then proceeds on foot across alpine terrain to Base Camp and higher camps before the technical ascent of Reo Purgyil.
