The Winter Ascent of Mt. Kiagar Ri
Mt. Kiagar Ri rises to 6100 meters in the remote Korzok region of Ladakh, surrounded by vast high-altitude plains and frozen landscapes. While non-technical in nature, winter conditions transform this mountain into a serious endurance-based Himalayan challenge.
Winter in Ladakh brings extreme cold, dry air, and unpredictable weather. Temperatures often fall between –25°C and –30°C, especially during summit hours, demanding precise layering, hydration management, and strong mental discipline.
The ascent involves long snow walks, rocky ridgelines, and sustained movement without fixed high camps. With no load carries or technical climbing sections, the challenge lies in endurance, pacing, and efficient winter movement.
